Appraisal Management Company (AMC)

An appraisal management company (AMC) is a third-party firm that coordinates appraisal assignments between lenders and independent appraisers. An AMC may manage appraiser selection, engagement, scheduling, quality control and delivery while helping lenders maintain appropriate separation between loan production and the valuation process.

AMC responsibilities can include verifying appraiser credentials, managing an approved panel, communicating assignment requirements, monitoring deadlines and reviewing completed reports for quality and compliance. States generally have registration and regulatory requirements for AMCs, while federal standards apply to AMCs involved in federally related transactions.

For lenders and loan originators, an AMC can provide access to appraisers across multiple markets while supporting appraisal independence and consistent order management. For appraisers, AMCs can provide assignments from lenders without requiring the appraiser to manage each lender relationship directly. Stewart Valuation Intelligence operates as a national AMC, providing appraisals, broker price opinions (BPOs), evaluations and review products through a managed network with documented compliance oversight.
